Springbourne Homes chairman Adrian Burr has been appointed President of Attleborough Sports Cricket Club in Nuneaton after almost 40 years with his home town club.
The honour celebrates the Springbourne chief’s long association with the Warwickshire League side, including building their £1.5m state-of-the-art sports complex 15 years ago.
Long-serving Adrian, who has played for Attleborough Sports since 1982, is delighted to have become the club’s figure head and maintain his close links with the team.
He said: “Inviting me to become Club President was a wonderful gesture by the club and I was very pleased to accept.
“It is great to still be so closely associated with the team, although it’s hard to believe it’s been almost 40 years now.
“However, when I look at the current committee, I realise they were just teenagers when I re-developed the sports ground and sports club just 15 years ago!
“I’m delighted the club is in such good shape and it is very satisfying to see them moving forward with a clear ambition to field two teams in the Warwickshire League.
“I’m also very proud to have delivered the full-scale re-development of the sports ground and the club house to help ensure their long-term future.
“It’s very satisfying to have been able to give something back to the local community where I grew up.”
Adrian was back at the crease at the weekend taking part in a challenge match between Attleborough Sports and Shropshire side Acton Reynauld, to raise money for training nets for young, aspiring cricketers at the Nuneaton club.
The 40 over match, which was sponsored by Springbourne Homes and Foster Lewis & Co. Estate Agents in Coventry, saw Attleborough emerge triumphant. The home side were 177 all out while Acton Reynauld finished on 155 for 6.
A bumper crowd turned up to watch the clash and enjoy the September sunshine, a pig roast barbeque, bar and entertainment.
Adrian was joined by fellow, former Attleborough Sports cricketers Dave Bennett, the FA Cup winning Coventry City legend, and loyal all-rounder Robbie Bradshaw as they recalled their action-packed playing days together.
